Honolulu, Hawaii
The world’s most isolated city is Honolulu, Hawaii. Its nearest city is Dalap-Uliga-Darrit or Majuro. They are roughly two thousand two hundred eighty two miles away.
Perth, Australia
While it is the most isolated city in Australia, Perth comes in at second most isolated city in the world. Perth is so isolated that its closest cities are actually in other countries, East Timor and Indonesia. In fact, it is cheaper and shorter to fly into Bali than Perth.
Iquitos, Peru
One would never think of a prosperous city full of nightlife when first thinking of the Amazon. But as you sip your beer in Iquitos, Peru, you will have the most unique view of any bar in the world, as you admire the surrounding jungle. Iquitos is a city that is only accessible by river and air because it is the word’s largest city that cannot be reached by road.
La Rinconada, Peru
La Rinconada is a beautiful, small city on Mount Ananea in Peru that sits near a glacier. With no paved roads, if you did want to go there, you will have to fight bitter cold, ice, and rocks. However, it is located near a gold mine, so perhaps you will get lucky on your way up. Located eighteen thousand feet in the Andes Mountains, it is the highest human habitation on Earth.
Villa Las Estrellas, Antarctica
Hardly a true city by population standards, Villa Las Estrellas is one of two villages in Antarctica, and has a population of fewer than two hundred. It has the basics for its inhabitants. Most people would never think of taking a vacation to the world’s coldest continent, but if you do, the intense winters will make for a vacation you will never forget!
Antarctica is mainly known for research stations, so it is mainly researchers who would think of living here for a long period of time. But Villa Las Estrellas is a village that has Chilean roots, while the other village is owned by Argentina.
Easter Island
Located several thousand miles off the coast of Chile, Easter Island only has about four thousand residents. It was formed by a series of volcanic eruptions, leaving it with a hilly, deforested terrain. Since it is so isolated, the existence and reasoning behind ancient statues located on the island has become a subject of one of the biggest mysteries of the world.
Mêdog, Tibet
Mêdog County is the last county in the area to get access to the outside world via road. Travel to this city is hard though, not because of harsh conditions, but government regulations. The Chinese government has begun to limit the number of tourists here because it wants to preserve the ecological environment in the region.
Longyearbyen, Norway
Longyearbyen is a small village located halfway between Norway and the North Pole. Since it is so remote, it relies heavily on Norway for most of its outside resources, including advanced help when it was hit by an avalanche in late 2015.
Tórshavn, Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are located halfway between Iceland, Scotland, and Norway. They are so small that many maps forget to include them. The capital city of Torshavn has a population of nineteen thousand. Torshavn is a city full of grass filled houses, and its variety of seafood makes it one of the best culinary destinations in the world.
Barrow, Alaska
Located just above the Arctic Circle, Barrow is a town in Alaska with no paved roads. Barrow’s local football team just recently got a turf to play on, and every practice and game is surrounded by frozen tundra. Its inhabitants still rely on hunting and fishing. Since it is so difficult to get outside resources into the town, everything is more expensive, including comparing it to the capital of Alaska, Juneau.
