Want to take up dancing for fun and for fitness, but don’t really know where to get started?
As an expert on having no rhythm and no real history of dancing or knowing how to dance, I am here to help you out.
I know how intimidating it can be when you’re where people are dancing and you don’t really feeling comfortable joining in.
So, whether you’re just looking to enjoy dancing in social situation or to mixup your workout routine with dancing as exercise, the videos below are a great place to get started.
The best part? With these videos you can learn to dance in the privacy of your own home.
One thing to keep in mind- it’s easier to dance on a hard, flat surface than a carpeted one.
I looked through some of the most popular beginner YouTube dance channels to find the best options to help you get started with dancing online.
Check out my picks below.
Dance Videos for Learning Basics Moves
If dancing for fitness is your goal, I still recommend that you start with some videos that teach you some basic dance moves.
While you won’t get a great workout from these slow tutorials, they are great for learning some of the basics of dance.
3 Simple Dance Moves for Beginners by MihranTV
MihranTV is one of my favorite channels for learning dance moves for beginners.
Mihran Kirakosian is a great online dance instructor and his tutorial videos are really easy to follow and learn from.
While his channel has a lot of great videos, I think that the best place to start is his playlist of videos titled “3 Simple Dance Moves.”
Yes, the videos in this playlist are technically hip hop dance moves, but don’t let that deter you if you’re not into hip hop.
Just watch the first video in this playlist below to see what a great teacher he is for dance noobs.
There are a total of 15 videos in this playlist, and I think you’ll enjoy following along with them.
And once you’re done, you can go through some of the other videos on his channel to tackle more dance moves.
6 Dance Moves playlist by STEEZY
If you’ve never seen the STEEZY channel on YouTube, then prepare yourself to be impressed.
They have tons of dope videos on all kinds of dance moves that you can learn.
But for beginners, their 6 Dance Moves playlist is the best place to start.
In fact, I think you should skip right to their 3 Easy Dance Moves (To Do At The CLUB or a WEDDING) video in this playlist, which you can see below.
It’s also worth noting that in addition to YouTube, you can get dance tutorials from STEEZY direct from their site online.
Once you get some basic dance moves down, I also recommend checking out STEEZY’s 15-Minute GROOVE Dance Follow-Along.
Bachata Beginner Basic Steps Tutorial by Bachata Dance Academy
Since a lot of the dance workout videos use Latin dance moves, this video on basic Bachata dance moves is a good one to master.
This video covers all of the Basic Steps and Turns for Bachata to get you started dancing.
You do not need a partner to do this Bachata tutorial.
This channel has a lot of great tutorials on the bachata, as you might expect from the channel name.
You can also find some good videos on learning the salsa from the same instructors.
What I really like about the videos on this channel is that they really slow the moves down so that complete noobs (like me) can really learn them.
Check out all of the playlists for this channel here.
How to dance for Beginners| Level 1 by Aditi at Dancercise Studio
If you’re interested in learning some Bollywood-style dance moves, then this video (and channel) is a great place to get started.
I really like how the instructor, Aditi, starts you out with some warm-up stretches so that you don’t injure yourself trying to learn these basics.
One word of caution – if you are not used to listening to people who talk with an accent, you may struggle at times to understand her. And there’s no closed captioning subtitles on the video.
That being said, I urge you to stick with this video because she is a great instructor.
You can watch this first video below, but keep in mind that is is part of a beginner’s playlist – so there are several follow-along videos to learn from.
You can find the entire playlist here.
And even if you don’t think that you’re interested in learning this style of dance, I still encourage you to just give it a try because you may like it. Plus, lots of great dance workout videos use this style of dancing.
Move with Colour’s “Beginner” Playlist
Once you get a bit more comfortable with some of the basics you’ve learned in the above videos, I recommend checking out the beginner’s playlist on the Move with Colour channel at YouTube.
You can find the full playlist here.
The videos in this playlist cover a variety of different dance styles, one of which you can see in the video below.
What I really love about the videos that Nathan Short provides here in the Move with Colour channel is that he’s so personable.
His fun attitude is really infectious and it’s difficult, if not impossible, to have a bad time dancing along to these videos.
Once you master the moves in his beginner’s playlist, you can move on to the intermediate and advanced playlists, we as well as the various playlists for his dance classes.
Dance Videos for Exercise (Make Home Workouts Fun!)
Once you master the basic dance moves above, you may be ready to make this fun part of your normal workout routines.
I’ve been going through the various dance channels on YouTube and picked out my favorite exercise dance videos that I think you’ll enjoy while getting in your exercise.
15 Min Groove Dance Workout | STEEZY.CO
The dance instructors at STEEZY are making some of the best dance workout videos on YouTube right now, and this is one of my favorites.
I feel like this one is pretty easy to follow along, whether you already know how to dance or if you only know some basic moves.
In the video above, the dance workout is led by STEEZY Instructor Brandon “BeastBoi” Juezan.
It’s definitely a fun way to spend 15 minutes while getting in some exercise.
10 minute High intensity low impact workout with Madhuri Dixit for Beginners (Dance With Madhuri)
From the Dance With Madhuri channel, this video is great for people who don’t have a lot of time but want to get in a good workout.
I also really like that this one starts with a warm-up to loosen those muscles.
What I don’t like about this video though are the ads because when they appear on-screen, the footwork is covered up.
While I appreciate that this video is free to watch the creator should get some compensation, it would be better if the ads were only at the start.
Of course, if you pay for YouTube, then you can view this video ad-free.
All that being said, this dance workout video is so good, that I had to include it despite the distracting ads.
45 Minute Beginner Dance Workout – Bachata, Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha & More by 375 Dance Studio
The 375 Dance Studio channel has a lot of great dance workout videos for beginners, and it took me some time to pick just one to focus on for this list.
I ended up choosing this 45-minute beginner’s dance workout routine because it covers a variety of dance styles and gives you a great workout.
And I really like that it includes a warm-up and cool down.
If you find that this workout is a bit too long for you, then here are my other favorites on this channel:
- 15 Minute Beginner Dance Workout
- Easy to Follow 20 Minute Salsa Dance Workout
- 20 Minute Beginner / Intermediate Dance Workout
There are plenty of other great videos on this channel, so feel free to explore if you’re not loving my selections.
40-Min Slow Pace Beginner Dance Workout by Flow Dance London
If you are not quite confident in your dancing abilities, then this slower paced dance workout video is a great place to start.
I think it’s also probably the best dance workout video for seniors since it is not as fast-paced as the rest.
I like that it covers several different dance styles – Disco Funk, Bachata, Salsa, Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, and Jive.
And don’t be fooled into thinking that a slower pace means less of a workout!
Cause it will definitely leave you sweating.
30-Min Beginner Dance Workout by Flow Dance London
If you enjoy the slow-paced workout above, but want something a bit quicker paced, then this is your answer.
It’s done by the same people and it’s actually pretty similar to the video above, just faster movements.
30-min Hip-Hop Fit Dance Workout by Mike Peele
If hip hop dance is more your style, then I think you’re going to love this 30-minute dance exercise video from Mike Peele.
This workout focuses a lot on your glutes and your core, so prepare yourself for that.
If you prefer to target other areas of your body, then Mike probably has a workout video on his channel for you as well.
To see what’s on offer, I suggest checking out his Hip-Hop Fit Cardio Dance Workout playlist, which currently has more than 80 workout videos listed.
Do note that the most recent videos are at the top of that playlist, while the oldest are at the bottom.
30 Min Latin Inspired DANCE Workout | STEEZY SWEAT
Another great option from the STEEZY channel is this Latin-inspired dance workout.
Do be warned that there is a bit more cardio in this one than you might expect – there are some little jumps almost immediately.
So, make sure you’re fit enough to tackle this one before getting started (check with your doctor, if you’re not sure).
One of the things that I like about this one is that it gives you a warm-up and cool-down.
And let me tell you, this one will REALLY make you sweat, but it is a lot of fun.
Final Word
As you can see, there are a lot of great online dance videos on YouTube for beginners.
While you can get started with any video you want, we highly recommend the options above as your jumping off point.
If you’ve found a great beginner’s video on YouTube, feel free to drop it in the comments.
