If you’re like me, then you take your Hydro Flask stainless steel water bottle with you everywhere.
Mine is my favorite hiking water bottle and I also travel with it.
I even took my Hydro Flask on a year long round the world trip a few years ago.
But you don’t have to travel around the world or be prone to clumsy accidents to drop your Hydro Flask every now and then.
You might be wondering – does dropping a Hydro Flask ruin it or affect it’s insulation properties in any way?
The answer is no, dropping a Hydro Flask bottle does not ruin it.

What Happens When You Drop Your Hydro Flask?
If you’re one of the fortunate people who have never dropped their Hydro Flask water bottle before, then you might be wondering what sort of damages you can expect if you do drop it ever.
Or, maybe you’ve already dropped it a few times and you’re concerned about if you’ve ruined the HydroFlask for good and need to buy a new one.
So, let’s see what you can expect when you drop one of these stainless steel water bottles.
Scratches
This is probably the most common thing that you’ll notice when you drop a Hydro Flask water bottle.
Just some minor cosmetic damage here and there.
This is really nothing to worry about cause the only damage that it does is that it looks unsightly.
Dirt Stains
Another thing that you may encounter when you drop your Hydro Flask are dirt stains that don’t want to come off.
I took my Hydro Flask to Sedona and after sitting it down on that red dirt, the bottom of it was a bit red tinted.
I also dropped it on a rock – you can see the white scratch mark it left on the lower part of the bottle in the image above.
Usually, you can wipe off dirt stains with a soft, wet cloth and some soap – but red clay mud can stain the lighter color bottles.
Dents
If you drop your Hydro Flask real good and it hits the ground the wrong way, or bounces off something awkwardly, then you’re likely going to see a dent or two on the bottle.
The good news is that the dent typically doesn’t ruin it – though it can sometimes result in damage to the insulation.

Does Dropping a Hydro Flask Ruin The Insulation?
Probably the biggest thing you need to worry about when you’ve dropped a Hydro Flask is if you’ve ruined in the insulation.
This bottle is made of thin stainless steel that is vacuum sealed to create that awesome insulation that we all know and love.
In most instances, dropping a Hydro Flask water bottle does not ruin the insulation.
However, there is a chance that the drop created a dent that ruptured the vacuum seal and ruined the insulation.
According to a Redditor who experienced this,
It really depends on if the outer layer makes contact with the inner layer. It gives heat and cold a bleed point, rendering the insulation essentially useless.
How To Protect Your Hydro Flask When You Drop It
If you want to prevent any damage from happening to your HydroFlask, then you should try to prevent dropping it in the first place.
Luckily, the company offers two easy (and inexpensive) solutions for you.
A Sling
First up, the Hydro Flask sling.
The company makes these in several sizes and you just slip them on so that you don’t have to hold the bottle in your hand.
Ideally, using this sling means that you won’t ever end up dropping your Hydro Flask.
It keeps a low profile when not in use, but stays light when you need hands-free hydration.
This sling has a fully adjustable nylon ripstop strap can be worn across the body or over the shoulder.
And the lightweight fabric easily packs down into its own pocket for quick storage or travel.
But what I really like about it is that the stretchy mesh pockets conveniently hold cards, keys, lip balm and some phone models.
A Boot
Next up, the silicone Hydro Flask boot.
The company makes these in two sizes and you just slip them on the bottom of your bottle.
They are made of silicone and designed to add extra protection to your Hydro Flask.
You can customize your look while protecting the bottle against bumps and dings.
Final Word
If you’re worried about dropping your Hydro Flask and ruining it, then you should know that this is unlikely.
However, you can still cause some damage when you drop it.
Luckily there are some ways to prevent that damage.
So, it’s a good idea for you to get a boot and a sling for your Hydro Flask water bottle so that you don’t damage it when you drop it.
