Whether you’re picking up a hot pizza 10 minutes away or a half hour away, one thing is certain – you do not want that pizza to get cold and soggy.
If the pizza delivery guy can bring it to your door hot and fresh, then you should be able to do the same – right?
Right!
Below I’ll share my tips on how I keep a pizza warm in the car when I do carryout instead of delivery.
With my tips below, you should be able to keep your pizza warm in transit as well.
Use An Insulated Grocery Freezer Bag
Have you ever seen those silver bags hanging on the wall in the frozen foods section of your grocery store?
They are quite large and have handles.
These are insulated freezer bags, but you can also use them for hot food.
If you have one big enough for pizza, put it in the bag (preferably in the shop).
Be sure to get as much air out of the bag as possible before sealing it.
Now you can take the bag with the pizza in it and put it in your car (which should be warmed up first in winter) on one of the seats.
I also suggest that you then put a towel/folded blanket over it the bag to seal in the heat even more.
Eat the pizza as soon as possible after arriving at your destination for maximum hotness.
Wrap In Blankets Or Towels
I like to keep several old blankets in my car in case of emergency, but they also come in handy whenever I have hot pizza in the car.
All you have to do is take that box of pizza and wrap it up like a little pizza burrito with some blankets or towels.
I like to double up on the blankets to really lock in that hot pizza warmth so that none of it escapes.
Eat the pizza as soon as possible after arriving at your destination for maximum hotness.
Crank The Seat Warmer
If you drive a car that has a seat warming function, then you can use it to keep the pizza warm.
First, I still recommend that you use blankets to lock in the heat because the seat warmer alone won’t be enough.
So, wrap up that pizza box in blankets or towels and place it on the seat where you’ve cranked up the seat warmer.
Use Hot Water Bottles
I’ve got this tip listed last because I know that not everyone has a few hot water bottles just lying around the house.
But, if you do, then you can fill them up with hot water before leaving to go pick up the pizza.
Then, one you get the pizza you can place them on top and under the pizza box to transfer their heat into the box.
I find that this works best if you double it up with one of the tips above, like wrapping it in blankets or putting it in the insulated bag with the hot water bottles.
Final Word
As you can see, there is more than one way to keep your pizza warm in the car.
For the best results, I suggest that you implement more than one of these at a time to maximize the heat in the pizza box.
And remember, if all else fails, you can heat the pizza back up in your oven at home for a few minutes.
